Dr. Yuxiang Chen is an Associate Professor of Building Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta (UofA). He is holding a UofA Engineering Research Chair of Resource-Efficient Buildings for Cold Climates. Dr. Chen obtained his post-secondary degrees (BEng, MSc, and PhD) in building engineering from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, before joining UofA in July 2015.
His research expertise is on resource-efficient buildings, focusing on thermal energy storage, utilization of renewable energy, prefabrication, and their intelligent and integrated design and operation.
Dr. Chen is currently the president of the Canadian Chapter of the International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA), and a panel expert of the Council of Canadian Academies (CCA)’s Expert Panel on Atypical Food Production Technologies for Canadian Food Security. He is also a voting member of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) A124 Prefabricated Buildings, Modules and Panels Technical Committee.
